Synthesis and biological activity of some quinazolinone derivatives

N-acetyl-4-nitro anthranilic acid (III), was heated with formamide at 180 d egrees for 4 hr, when 7-nitro-2-methyl-4 (3H)-quinazolinone (IV) was obtain ed in good yields. Mannich bases (Va-o) were obtained when (IV) was reacted with certain amines and other compounds in the presence of formaldehyde un der Mannich conditions. The compounds synthesized were screened for antibac terial and some of them for antitubercular activities against S. aureus, B- subtilis (+ve), E. coli. S. typhae, P. Vulgaris(-ve) and human strain of My cobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv. Four compounds were screened for antiinflam matory activity. Some of the compounds showed promising activities.
