Abstract
Whilst attempting to design a polarimetric highly birefringent (HB) pressur e sensor, approximate formulae were developed for the pressure variation of the birefringence of HE fibres with stress regions made from different ela stic parameter materials. In the process of producing this result, a comple te reworking of an existing basic analysis was found to be necessary.
