We successfully used the pulsed laser ablation and deposition to prepare su
perconducting thin films of SmBaCuO under different growth parameters. The
films were grown on both MgO (100) and SrTiO3 (100) substrates. The best sa
mples showed a good degree of orientation; having the theta-scan around the
005 reflection an FWHM approximate to 0.2 degrees. We report the critical
temperature as a function of the deposition parameters, comparing the resul
ts between the two substrates. We also estimate the critical current densit
y at 60K from the magnetization curve.
