Ozone profile determination by the method of occultation sounding from theMir space station: 2. Comparison of the observational results with independent data
Av. Polyakov et al., Ozone profile determination by the method of occultation sounding from theMir space station: 2. Comparison of the observational results with independent data, IAN FIZ ATM, 35(3), 1999, pp. 322-328
Examples of comparisons of vertical ozone;profiles determined: ins series o
f-Space experiments conducted on the Priroda module of the Mir space statio
n with independent data are presented. The Ozon-Mir spectrometer, which mea
sured solar radiation absorption along tangent paths in;the UV and visible
spectral regions was used in the experiments, A good agreement with the HAL
OE data is demonstrated, as a rule, within the total errors of the two inst
ruments (10-20%). The exception is a pressure range in the vicinity of 3 mb
ar, where distinctions run to 20-30%. The comparison of ozone content data
obtained with the Ozon-Mir and MLS instruments:in three space experiments s
hows that these independent observational data-correlate very well. The sta
ndard deviations usually range from 5 to 15%, and, at the majority of heigh
t levels, they do not exceed the sum df the errors-of these two instruments
. Systematic differences between the ozone readings of the two instruments
vary from 10 to 30% and change sign depending on height.
