Abstract
The dehorning wounds of twelve adult goats were managed in three ways: wash ing with isotonic saline solution; washing with saline and disinfection wit h 5% povidone-iodine (PI); washing with saline and then local treatment wit h penicillin G procaine solution (150,000 units per milliliters). The heali ng of wounds was evaluated on the basis of radiographical examination of fr ontal sinus, clinical and bacteriological examination of wound. In the firs t group, the frontal sinus showed radiopacity and would repair in some goat s failed. In the second group, the radiopacity of frontal sinus decreased, the infection was controlled but the wound healing was partially delayed. I n the third group the radiopacity of frontal sinus and infection were not o bserved and would healing was optimal. Thus local treatment with penicillin G after saline washing is recommended.
