Abstract
In this paper, multilayered feedforward neural networks trained with t he error-back-propagation (EBP) algorithm have been employed for predi cting the seasonal monsoon rainfall over India. Three network models t hat use, respectively, 2, 3 and 10 input parameters which are known to significantly influence the Indian summer monsoon rainfall (ISMR) hav e been constructed and optimized. The results obtained thereby are rig orously compared with those from the statistical models. The predictio ns of network models indicate that they can serve as a potent tool for ISMR prediction.
