This study investigated the academic integrity climate of a mid-sized, comp
rehensive, private university. The role of differential uses of techniques
of neutralization and deterrence were explored in an attempt to assess gend
er differences in motivations surrounding cheating behaviors. A total of 53
2 undergraduate students participated in the survey Findings indicated that
while both males and females are reluctant to report instances of academic
dishonesty that they witness, there remain significant gender differences
in student motivations to act honestly and refrain from cheating.
