Presently the available intervention in the state of Texas for abused or ne
glected elders is that delivered by the Texas Department of Protective and
Regulatory Services. The Harris County Hospital District has a comprehensiv
e Geriatric Program staffed by an interdisciplinary team. The purpose of th
is report is to describe the team's experience with nine neglected or abuse
d elders who underwent interdisciplinary geriatric assessment and intervent
ion with three and six-month follow-up. Two illustrative cases are describe
d in detail. This series of nine patients who were neglected or abused illu
strates the potential impact of a medical intervention program.
