Abstract
Amphiphilic hydroxystilbazolium cations and their corresponding neutral bet aines exhibit large off-resonant positive and negative, respectively, secon d order hyperpolarizabilities which were measured by DFWM and Z-scan experi ments. Quantitative structure-property relations were established from semi -empirical calculations.
