Abstract
The emission line profile of an atom in a dissipative medium is investigate
d theoretically by Langevin formulation. A general formula for the line pro
file is presented. Among others, there appears an additional broadening ori
ginating from the energy width of the photon. The line profile also deviate
s somewhat from the Lorentzian shape.
