Ruthenium dioxide hydrate (RuO2. xH(2)O) reacts with carbon monoxid at 5-20
atm to give dodecacarbonyltriruthenium, Ru-3(CO)(12), in an excellent yiel
d. Ruthenium carboxylate complexes [Ru-2(OCOR)(2)(CO)(4)](n) (R = H or CH3)
are almost quantitatively obtainable from the same reaction in the presenc
e of formic or acetic acid. These isolable Ru complexes and the Ru dioxide
hydrate efficiently effect a reductive carbonylation of nitrobenzene in ani
line to produce N,N'-diphenylurea. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S.A. All right
