Abstract
The efficient synthesis of aldehydes derived from 2,3-butane diacetal prote cted butane tetrols (S',S',R,R)-5 and (R',R',S,S)-6 and their utility in th e controlled synthesis of polyhydroxylated materials through highly diaster eoselective Lewis acid mediated addition reactions of allyl-tributylstannan e and silyl enol ether nucleophiles is described.
