A sol-gel process has been developed for the chemical synthesis of ZnS
at room temperature using zinc tert-butoxide and H2S as precursors in
a toluene solution. The obtained reaction product was a yellow semi-t
ransparent gel which dried to a reddish-orange solid. Characterization
of the dried gel by XRD, IR and EDS confirmed that the product is ZnS
with a Zn/5 atomic ratio approximate to 1:1.
