A disc refiner model for stock preparation for paper and board manufacture,
is derived. The torsional response of the machine under operating conditio
ns is considered. Resonance excitation via drive and flow pulsation variati
ons is achieved enabling optimum torsional oscillatory behaviour to be atta
ined. The effect of this action on the reciprocal shredding and shearing pe
rformance of the machine is commented upon and simulated response character
istics are presented. (C) 1999 Academic Press.
