Abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) are a major healthcare problem for which t
he conventional treatment is open operative repair. More recently, endovasc
ular approaches to this problem have been developed and continue to progres
s, with the placement of stent-grafts via much less invasive approaches. Th
is article reviews the history of these devices and the groups of patients
suitable for their placement. The results to date are also discussed, along
with the controversies which still surround the use of such devices.
