High resolution measurements of the 2(2)(0) (bending) hot band of the (A) o
ver tilde(1)A" <-- (X) over tilde(1)A' band system of deuterobromomethylene
between 10290 cm(-1) and 10540 cm(-1) are described. The spectra were reco
rded by direct absorption of a continuous-wave frequency-modulated external
cavity diode laser following pulsed ultraviolet laser photolysis of deuter
ated bromoform. Although the bending vibrational spacings in the (X) over t
ilde(1)A' stare are not regular, the rotational structure in its (020) leve
l was found to be unperturbed at the accuracy of the experimental measureme
nts. This observation provides strong evidence that the position of the exc
ited tripler (a) over tilde(3) A", state lies to higher energy, at least 16
37cm(-1) above the zero point level of the ground state.
