Abstract
Chemical - bituminological investigation of samples of the bottom sediments were carried out in cruise 49 of the R/V "Dmitry Mendel'eev'' in the Kara Sea (August-September, 1993). The hydrocarbons were subject to GC analyses, It was found on the basis of distributions of the n-alkanes and isoprenoid s (pristan, phytan) that organic matter consists predominantly of the terre strial higher plant sources.
