Abstract
A model for the electronic motion on the Fermi surface in the presence of a uniform magnetic field and an alternating electric field is developed. For a sufficiently strong electric field it is found to be effectively kicked. For specific values of parameters it reduces to the kicked Harper model. Z n some situations it is found to be kicked both in position and in momentum , and for some values of the parameters it is integrable. The experimental conditions for the realization of the various theoretical models presented in this work are discussed. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reser ved.
