Surface resonance x-ray scattering, sensitive to the monolayer-level change
of an oxidation state of a buried interface, is used for the investigation
of electrochemical oxidation of Pt(111) single crystal surface. The strong
ly Q-dependent energy scans through the L-III resonance energy of Pt atoms
were accounted for by a large increase of the electron binding energy of th
e surface atoms as a result of surface anodic oxidation.
