Abstract
Contact charging between insulators was one of the earliest manifestat ions of electrical science. Yet reproducible experiments remain a chal lenge and a generally agreed upon theory of insulator-insulator chargi ng remains elusive. The experimental difficulties in this field and cu rrent progress towards a satisfactory theory are discussed. Some recen t experimental results are shown and unanswered questions identified.
