The effect of two selenium (Se) doses (100 and 500 g.ha(-1)) on quality of
peppermint (Mentha piperita L.) was studied. Special attention was devoted
to the content and chemical composition of the essential oil from peppermin
t. Analysis of the essential oil was performed by GC-FID and GC-MS techniqu
e. It was found that the Se application had positive effect on the content
of some important essential oil components (menthol, menthyl acetate, beta-
caryophyllene). However, the applied Se doses had negative effect on the co
ntent of essential oil in the leaves of peppermint.
