Abstract
In view of the application of gas cleaning technology by electrical di scharge, the authors investigated the effect of characteristics of pul se corona on the gas decomposition. It was shown that pulse rise time, pulse peak voltage and pulse frequency greatly influence the decompos ition of the gases. Pulse rise times less than about 100 nano sec, pul se peak voltages more than about 25 kV and pulse frequencies more than 60 pulse/sec are required for effective gas decompositions (nearly 10 0 % decomposition). Gas residence time more than about 2 min (now rate less than about 0.4 cm/sec) is also necessary for effective decomposi tion of the gases.
