In this paper. a new nonlinear processing algorithm for the suppression of
a narrowband interference in direct sequence spread spectrum systems is int
roduced. The proposed algorithm has an advantage in that the unknown interf
erence parameters are accurately identified by processing data in a block-b
y-block basis via the well established signal subspace techniques. The perf
ormance of a receiver that employs such an interference suppression algorit
hm is evaluated in terms of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) improvement. Co
mparisons to the existing nonlinear methods are also presented. (C) 1999 El
