Abstract
The carboxylic acid functionality can be protected as the 1,2,3,4-tetrahydr o-1-naphthyl ester, which can be selectively cleaved in the presence of ary l and alkyl esters using chlorotrimethylsilane and sodium iodide in acetoni trile. This protecting group allows room temperature deprotection under ess entially neutral conditions throughout the cleavage reaction. (C) 1999 Else vier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
