Abstract
Structural transformations induced by IR radiation in poly(acrylonitrile) ( PAN) and a PAN-C-60 composite are studied by X-ray powder diffraction. It i s established that the intermediate, graphite-like, and polynaphthene phase s, and two phases of unknown structure are formed in PAN at 200 degrees C o wing to the cyclization of nitrile groups, Fullerene C-60 inhibits cyclizat ion and exists up to 450 degrees C.
