A new isopropyl benzene derivative named as zatatriol (5) and two synthetic
ally known compounds (2 and 7) having the same skeleton have been isolated
from the hexane soluble part of a Lamiaceous plant Zataria multiflora. In a
ddition to 2, 5 and 7, some known constituents: p-cymene (1), thymol (3), t
hymol methyl-ether (4), beta-sitosterol, stigmasterol, oleanolic acid, betu
linic acid, and hexadecanoic acid have also been isolated from the same sou
rce. Structures of the isolated constituents were elucidated with the aid o
f NMR spectroscopy.
