Ja. Doyle, Plant molecular systematics, classical systematics, and morphological cladistics: Comments on the article of A.S. Antonov, ZH OBS BIOL, 60(3), 1999, pp. 344-350
Many conflicts between genosystematics and phenosystematics discussed in th
e review by A.S. Antonov reflect methods of analysis rather than kinds of d
ata; cladistic analyses of morphological data agree more with molecular ana
lyses. Molecular data have important limitations, and studies of both molec
ules and morphology will be: needed for a complete understanding of plant e
volution.
