N. Aihara et al., Deterioration of ocular motor dysfunction after transvenous embolization of dural arteriovenous fistula involving the cavernous sinus, ACT NEUROCH, 141(7), 1999, pp. 707-710
We treated 9 patients with the dural arteriovenous fistula involving the ca
vernous sinus by transvenous embolization. Two patients experienced deterio
ration of oculo-motor dysfunction after trans venous embolization. We can s
peculate about two different kind of causes by which patients symptoms dete
riorated according to the result of intrasinus pressure recorded during the
embolization [1]: high intrasinus pressure caused by the obliteration of t
he drainage pathway resulted in cranial nerve palsy in one case [2]: implan
ted coils directly compressed the cranial nerve in another case. Fortunatel
y our cases recovered, but some kind of preventative measures may bs needed
in similar cases.
