Abstract
We introduce a scheme for synchronization of chaos, whereby one combin es the original Pecora and Carrels [Phys. Rev. Lett. 64, 821 (1990)] p rocedure with an adaptive algorithm for chaos control. Based upon the knowledge of the local variation rates, the algorithm provides synchro nization between a message sender and a message receiver and assures s ecurity in the communication against external interceptions. The effec tiveness of the proposed scheme as well as its robustness are shown fo r the Lorenz system.
