A starch-based low density polyethylene (LDPE) biodegradable film was devel
oped by a cost effective commercialized technology. In this process starch
was blended with LDPE using a suitable proprietary coupling system. LDPE, s
tarch and the coupling system were intimately compounded and extruded as st
rands, which were subsequently processed by a film blowing extruder to make
a biodegradable film. The quality of that firm was satisfactory in terms o
f appearance, mechanical strength and biodegradability.
