Abstract
A coupled bending and stretching model for slender shallow arches (pla nar or not) is obtained from the tridimensional linear elasticity mode l as the area of the cross section tends to zero. We prove a convergen ce result justifying the method from a mathematical viewpoint, and we also give a precise definition of ''shallow arch''.
