Playing the dating game: Do we know whom others would like to date?

A perceiver's ability to postdict whom a person selected as a dating partne r as well as the types of cues utilized by the perceiver to make this judgm ent were examined. Segments of a television matchmaking series were used. I t was found that perceivers accurately postdicted whom a dater selected, al though these judgments were not related to the compatibility of the couple. As predicted, perceivers used physical attractiveness to select dating par tners.
