We report coherent generation of tunable THz pulses via optical rectif
ication of pulse trains consisting of femtosecond laser pulses. The sy
nthesis of pulse trains is performed with zone plates made of thin gla
ss slides to achieve both tunability and a narrower spectral bandwidth
of the generated THz radiation. For the first time, tuning of the far
infrared radiation has been experimentally demonstrated from 2.0 to 5
.3 THz.
