Zj. Xiao et Bs. Mitchell, Optimization of process parameters in the production of mullite fibers viaInviscid Melt-Spinning (IMS), CHEM ENG CO, 173, 1999, pp. 123-133
Process parameters for the formation of mullite fibers by the Inviscid Melt
Spinning process were determined using a factorial design analysis. Mullit
e fibers were produced from a 3:2 mullite melt (M.P. = 1830 degrees C) via
Inviscid Melt-Spinning (IMS) in a BN crucible, under an argon atmosphere, a
t a melt temperature of 2000 degrees C and spinning pressure of 40 psi. A h
eating rate-holding time program of 80 degrees/min and 8 minutes, respectiv
ely, was used for the fiber-making experiment.
