Abstract
In this study, the synthesis of some new 5-acetyl-3,4-dihydro-6-methyl-4-(s ubstituted phenyl)-2(1H)-pyrimidinones has been reported. The compounds wer e prepared by the Biginelli reaction of acetylacetone with aromatic aldehyd es and urea. The structures of the compounds were characterized by UV, IR, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, mass spectra and elementary analysis. The calcium antago nistic activity of these compounds was tested in vitro on rat ileum precont racted with 4 x 10(-3) M barium chloride. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S.A. Al l rights reserved.
