Abstract
GABP is a heteromeric transcription factor complex which consists of the et s related protein, GABP alpha, and the Notch-related protein, GABP beta. We isolated a human genomic DNA fragment which is highly homologous and colin ear with human GABPa cDNA, but which lacks introns. This processed pseudoge ne, psi hGABP alpha, is expressed as RNA in U937 human myeloid cells, but a mutation at the site that corresponds to the ATC start methionine codon pr events its translation into protein. The pseudogene was localized to chromo some 7 using a somatic cell hybrid mapping panel and it is not syntenic wit h authentic GABPa, which was localized to chromosome 21. We have identified psi hGABP alpha, a novel, GABP alpha-related processed pseudogene which is expressed as a RNA transcript in human myeloid cells. (C) 1999 Published b y Elsevier Science B.V.
