Vp. Kazachenko et Av. Rogachev, The features of medium-energy electron-beam dispersion of polytetrafluoroethylene, HIGH ENERG, 33(4), 1999, pp. 229-231
The procedure and the experimental results of a study on the dispersion of
polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) in a vacuum by 0.1-2.5-keV electrons are rep
orted. The time course of the multistage dispersion process was studied and
its oscillatory modes occurring upon the evolution of volatile products we
re described. Based on the analysis of the specific features of dispersion
and the characteristic parameters of the process, it was concluded that ele
ctron beam-assisted degradation of PTFE should be considered a thermal depo
lymerization process induced by ionizing action of electrons.
