Abstract
We achieved 2.5-Gb/s-1200-km transmission in standard optical fiber using a n electorabsorption modulator integrated with a distributed feedback laser diode having quarter-wavelength shifted corrugation and optimized coupling in the laser section. several devices from one wafer shelved high optical o utput power and stable single mode operation. These results showed that our electroabsorption-modulator-integrated distributed-feedback laser diodes w ith quarter-wavelength-shifted corrugation are cost effective and have very long-haul transmission capability.
