The decomposition of silver(I)-NTHB complex in the Triton X-100 micellar me
dium by cyanide ions takes place instantaneously and this has been used to
develop a sensitive, convenient and rapid indirect micellar spectrophotomet
ric method for the determination of cyanide ions. The calibration graph is
linear over the range 0.10-0.90 mu g/ml of cyanide. The method is relativel
y free from interference and satisfactorily applied for the determination o
f cyanide in synthetic samples with a coefficient of variation less than 1%
.
