Abstract
Parallel optical data links using high-efficiency microcavity LEDs (MCLEDs) and small-diameter plastic optical fibre ribbons are proposed. MCLED perfo rmance, coupling efficiencies, alignment tolerances, plastic optical fibre end-facet termination techniques and first link experiments are studied.
