The structure of the experimental conversion spectra of an ultrasoft nuclea
r isomer transition of uranium-235 in oxygen-containing uranium compounds i
s investigated quantitatively. The behavior of the intensity of the U6p(1/2
) line in the spectrum is analyzed. It is established that the quasiatomic
U6p(1/2) orbital in uranyl compounds retains (69+/-9)% primary electron den
sity on the uranium atom, the remainder passing to molecular orbitals.
