K. Otawara et Lt. Fan, Increasing the yield of autocatalytic reaction carried out in a CSTR by feedback mechanism, KAG KOG RON, 25(4), 1999, pp. 564-568
Spontaneous oscillations in chemical reactions are often deemed inexpedient
because of their propensity to cause operational complexities Nevertheless
, it has been demonstrated in our previous work that we can take advantage
of such oscillations. For instance, it has been shown that the yield of the
desired product from an autocatalytic reaction in a continuous stirred-tan
k reactor (CSTR) can be quadrupled with a proportional feedback mechanism.
The results of additional case studies carried out in the current work indi
cate that for wide ranges of parameter values, the yield of the same reacti
on can be further increased and in some cases it can be around 50 times lar
ger than the maximum value obtainable in the steady state operation.
