Relationship between ECC signs of left ventricular hypertrophy and angioten
sin-converting enzyme gene polymorphism was assessed in a population and fa
mily based case-control study in Novosibirsk. Prevalence of myocardial hype
rtrophy in men aged 35-54 years was 22,9% with obvious aggregation of cases
in families. Frequencies of alleles of angiotensin-converting enzyme gene
(I-45%, D-55%) were similar to those observed in European countries. No ass
ociations were found between ACE gene polymorphism and blood pressure level
, frequencies of hypertension, increased myocardial mass, and left ventricu
lar hypertrophy.
