EXCESS THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF ASYMMETRIC MULTICOMPONENT MIXTURES- PREDICTIVE MODELS AND MICROSCOPIC INSIGHT FOR THE SYSTEM ETHANOL PLUS TETRAHYDROFURAN PLUS CYCLOHEXANE AT 25-DEGREES-C
G. Conti et al., EXCESS THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF ASYMMETRIC MULTICOMPONENT MIXTURES- PREDICTIVE MODELS AND MICROSCOPIC INSIGHT FOR THE SYSTEM ETHANOL PLUS TETRAHYDROFURAN PLUS CYCLOHEXANE AT 25-DEGREES-C, Pure and applied chemistry, 67(11), 1995, pp. 1849-1854
A general picture of the excess thermodynamic properties G(m)(E), H-m(
E), S-m(E), C-p,m(E), and V-m(E), for the ternary mixture ethanol + te
trahydrofuran + cyclohexane is presented and discussed. Emphasis is pl
aced on the advantages for interpretation inherent in the contemporane
ous observation of all these properties. The trend of the excess entro
py and heat capacity reveals the nearly competitive behaviour of the t
wo polar compounds with respect to the hydrocarbon in terms of order-d
isorder creation. Partial molar quantities of ethanol illustrate the p
henomena associated with the presence of hydrogen bonds, while calcula
tion of the Kirkwood-Buff integrals allows quantitative estimation of
the local compositions. Lastly, some methods for predicting the thermo
dynamic properties of multicomponent mixtures are considered.
