Abstract
Barn owl can detect the arrival time disparity of binaural input sound whic h is of the order of 10 mu s We proposed that this hyperacuity for detectio n of the disparity is accomplished through a combination of two kinds of fu nctional contributions. One comes from the functional structure of a neural unit for coincidence detection, and the other comes from a functional stru cture of a network constructed with the: units. The network model of nucleu s laminaris is made based on Jeffress' model. The hyperacuity has been achi eved by positively including noises in the input signals. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V.
