M. Mannhart-harms et al., Papillary thyroid carcinoma in an adult teratoma in combination with mucinous cystadenoma of the ovary, ONKOLOGIE, 22(3), 1999, pp. 222-224
Background: Primary thyroid carcinoma in an adult teratoma of ovarian origi
n is observed very rarely. Material and Methods: We report a patient with a
papillary thyroid carcinoma in adult teratoma and discuss the available li
terature of clinical and histopathological findings of these tumors. Result
and Conclusion: Patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma in an adult tera
toma of the ovary have a better prognosis than patients with thyroid carcin
oma and metastatic spread to the ovary. Therapy of choice is surgery. The a
vailable literature describes several cases of patients with a benign clini
cal course without any further systemic therapy even in advanced stages of
the disease (intra-abdominal metastasis).
