Abstract
We report on the stimulated formation of soliton pulses in a passively mode -locked fibre soliton laser. We found experimentally that if there are soli ton pulses in the cavity, new soliton pulses can be generated one by one wi th very low pump threshold. We show that the mechanism for the soliton puls e generation is a soliton shaping of dispersive waves in the laser. (C) 199 9 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
