Abstract
We study the possible lowest energy states for spin-polarized electrons in a parabolic quantum dot in the strong magnetic field, for filling factors 1 > v greater than or equal to 1/3. We present a variational wave function th at correctly predicts the possible angular momentum values obtained from nu merical diagonalizations. The wave function is optimized using quantum Mont e Carlo techniques. [S0163-1829(99)05927-5].
