Abstract
Ionization of metals in electrolytes is considered and the role played by i ntermediate surface-adsorption complexes is underlined. The extensive exper imental data are shown to correspond to a mechanism based on the presence o f partial reactions with a common reagent on the metal surface. A statistic al model for the concurrent surface adsorption is proposed. The model accou nts for properties of the surface and electrolyte, allows for the structure of adsorption complexes, and describes the competition between surface-act ive centers of different nature for surface-active species during the adsor ption of the latter from the medium.
