Abstract
We report on 8 Norwegian travellers to Southern Africa with African tick-bi te fever (ATBF), a recently described spotted fever group rickettsiosis. Al l patients had acute flu-like symptoms and developed 1 or multiple inoculat ion eschars. The patients were treated with either doxycycline or ciproflox acin, and all recovered. The diagnosis of ATBF was confirmed by the detecti on of specific IgM antibodies to Rickettsia africae by microimmunofluorosce nce in convalescent-phase serum samples.
